Catch Me If You Can (2002)

I've missed blogging! Once my writing class ended It was hard to find the inspiration to write. Once Fall semester ended, I got way too caught up applying for internships and starting my grant applications. All the hard work paid off though, I got accepted into the internship and now I'm waiting to hear back from the grants.

Spring semester has started and the only change in my class schedule is my new academic class. Variations: Selling Your Soul. A class on the many adaptations to the story of Doctor Faustus.

A very interesting concept for a class, I was so changed by my essay class last semester that I signed up for this class which is taught by the same professor. So far I'm not getting what I expected to. But I do enjoy the projects that are due every 2 weeks. It can be anything I want, so my first project I transcribed Marlowe's play Doctor Faustus into a screenplay and broke it down, creating a shot list and lined the script. It was actually fun.

Thanks to my idol, Taylor Z, I have found my new love. BusyCal on my Mac. It's a flawless calendar app worth the $30 it cost. Color coordinated, easy to export, easy to edit, todo lists. It's the perfect best friend!

I'm jumping around a little, but there is so much I didn't keep up with! This passed Saturday I pitched to the 3rd year committee for the first time. We nailed it! It went great and we got approved to go directly to script! So now we are in the early stages of development for script and this could potentially be produced during my 3rd year! And I could Direct or Produce it!! It's such an exciting process!!

Other than that, I've been busy casting a third year that shoots in 2 weeks, then I'm co-Production Coordinating one, and Transportation Coordinator for the last one. I'm also working on 3 second year films. 1st AD-ing the first weekend, Producing the second weekend. Then DIRECTING mine the 3rd weekend. We're cast!

Cannes Film Festival
http://www.ampav.com/index.php/student-programs/cannes-film-program/

I can't be more excited about getting accepted into the Internship. There is no way I can be in France and NOT see Paris, so the plan is to start in Paris (for my bday) and take a train to Cannes. This feels so unreal.
My responsibilities:

Prior to the start of the Festival, students participate in a three-day Festival orientation and tour of Cannes. During this time students attend workshops and seminars designed to help them gain a greater understanding of the history of The Cannes Film Festival and the business side of the film industry. Once the Festival begins, students start their six-hours-per-day work placement with The American Pavilion (which includes a restaurant, bar, coffee bar, conference center and business center), with one of our sponsors or with other companies doing business at the Festival. All students have the opportunity to meet and interact with industry professionals, observing firsthand the fast-paced nature of the Festival and Market. During The  Festival students participate in The Roundtable Series, which allows students to have small group discussions with noted individuals from both the creative and business side of the film industry. This programming is available only to students participating in The American Pavilion Worldwide Student programs. Past guests in The Roundtable Series include Tim RothJude LawCharlie Kauffman andMichael Moore.

Flights are booked, just need train tickets and a hotel in Paris. Any advice is welcome. I've never been to France!
