I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

Every summer UNCSA hosts a summer session for Drama students, Visual Artists, Music, Dancers and Filmmakers. It's 5 weeks long and consists of various workshops and intensives. This summer I applied to work as a Film School TA. It's been a fun ride. My section is section 3, which was my section my first year.

Logan and Brian were late on the first day

Every morning we meet at 8:45. The kids then either go to a Directing, Screenwriting, Editing or Cinematography class for a couple of hours. For the first 2 weeks they work on a 5 page script to shoot a 5 minute movie. We talk about story in class and work through any kinks or potential production problems.

Schedule, script formatting notes and homework
In order to get ready to shoot, the students have to have a locked and approved script. A script breakdown highlighting any locations, props and characters. This way they have an idea of how complicated their film may be. The average film had 4 locations and maybe 3 actors with 3 1/2 hours to shoot the movie. Terrible limitations, but a great way to learn the fundamentals of making a movie.

First production! "Hand Guns"
Dead Matt and Charles
Production Schedule, it was a bitch to make
Trying to figure out 10 student's productions, 10 jobs filming in 8 days was not easy. It was sudoku with humans. This diagram was the best I could do.

Filming the Lamentation of Sally Summershine

Filming "The Mix Up"
Filming our blood bank robbery film

Filming "Vic" with Jake Kath

This was a great way to end my summer because I learned so much from these kids. I also got a chance to remember what it was about film that interested me when I was younger.
